OpenSG is an Open Source scenegraph system that is being developed to offer functionality for Virtual Reality applications that other systems don't:

portbility: it's developed on Windows, Linux and IRIX
multi-thread support: it can handle multiple threads manipulating the tree at the same time
multi-pipe support: it can handle multiple heterogeneous graphics pipelines
